Cement render is a versatile mixture of sand, cement, and clay or lime, applied to various surfaces like brick, cement, stone, and even painted walls. If applying to painted walls, it’s crucial first to use an undercoat to ensure the render adheres appropriately. While acrylic render is gaining popularity, cement render remains a cost-effective choice for home rendering.
Benefits and Drawbacks of Cement Render: While cement render offers longevity and durability, it may need more flexibility compared to acrylic render. Despite this, it effectively conceals imperfections and adds an extra layer of protection against erosion. Moreover, it’s commonly used to enhance the lifespan and aesthetics of retaining walls, with thickness varying based on factors like brickwork and desired finish.
Misconceptions About Cement Render: Despite its advantages, cement render sometimes receives negative reviews due to the aggressive marketing of acrylic render. However, cement render remains a reliable option, though acrylic render may offer better flexibility in preventing wall cracking caused by structural movement.

Applying Colour to Cement Render: You have several options if you’re considering adding colour to your cement render. One method involves adding oxide to the render mix, resulting in a coloured finish. Alternatively, coloured acrylic render offers durability and comes in various textures and shades. Lastly, painting is another option, but it requires waiting at least a month after rendering.
The Atlantic Process for Cement Rendering: At Atlantic Cement Rendering, we follow a meticulous process to ensure superior results. This includes setting up protective measures, installing PVC corner beads for precision, preparing substrates, applying the render, and finishing with a smooth sponge texture. Afterwards, we clean up thoroughly to complete the project.
Improve the Value of Your Home with Cement Rendering Over Brickwork

Rendering Over Brick Work
From left to right: To begin the restoration process, we provided an estimate to carefully remove the old rendering back to the masonry, ensuring a clean surface for the new application. Once the surface was prepped, we then applied two coats of Drizero waterproof cement base to provide a strong foundation.
Following this, we then added two coats of acrylic render for a smooth and durable finish. To enhance the longevity and protection of the rendering, we then applied a coat of primer followed by two coats of membrane paint, resulting in a total of seven coats for this comprehensive project, bringing it to completion with expert care and precision.
