Part 1: Fibreglass blue mesh protecting one hundred-year-old brick work
The images showcased above offer a glimpse into the initial phase of renovating a townhouse located in Erskineville, in Sydney’s Inner West. In this stage, we embarked on revealing the authentic charm hidden beneath layers of gyprock by meticulously stripping them back from the walls. What emerged were the beautifully aged brick walls and arches, reflecting the rich history of the property, which dates back to circa 1900.
To ensure the structural integrity of the aged brickwork, we implemented a reinforcement technique using fibreglass mesh. This crucial step serves to strengthen the brickwork, providing added support and stability to the walls. Following this, we applied a skim coat of acrylic render, meticulously smoothing it over the surface to create a uniform finish. The application of the render not only reinforces the structural integrity but also offers an ideal base for further finishing touches. Stay tuned for the next phase of this exciting project, as we continue to transform this historic townhouse into a modern masterpiece.
